Wintertime at Week Parks

27. January 2013

Happy New Year! We're getting closer to lambing at Week Parks and the Jacobs are doing their best to feed themselves up and keep out the bitter cold that descended a few days ago, as well as a covering of snow which made nibbling the grass a bit more complicated. Lets hope none of them have sensitive teeth! The chickens were far more prudent and pretty much stayed indoors during the cold snap, emerging yesterday once the overnight rain had washed away all the snow.

Tracy is busy building up the supplies she'll need for lambing - it's not on the same scale as our neighbours, who are expecting a hundred times more lambs than we're hoping for, but it's our first experience of bringing new lambs into the world so we're leaving nothing to chance. We spent yesterday afternoon clearing some space in the barn so we can bring the ewes in when the time is right.

The Jacobs weren't the only four-legged residents at Week Parks to enjoy the snow - Fred and Clarence had a great time chasing each other around the garden. Clarence trying to walk in four or five inches of snow which had developed something of an icy crust was one of the funniest things we've seen!
